Call for Proposals

In partnership with Kennedy Library, the second More than a Motto: Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing Conference is an opportunity for the university to come together to showcase and celebrate our unique institutional identity. All current Cal Poly faculty and staff, individually or in teams, as well as students working with a faculty/staff mentor are invited to submit conference presentation proposals.
Centered on illustrative examples of Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing approach in enhancing both academic and campus life, the conference will include a poster gallery session and 50-minute oral presentations. Proposals should fit into one of the following three categories:
Active Learning in the Classroom or a Campus Setting
Learn by Doing through course or program design, including: Learn by Doing through course or program design (e.g., classroom activities, major or auxiliary projects, service learning projects or programs, cross-disciplinary experiences, work study, etc.)

Student Engagement in Research
Learn by Doing through active undergraduate or graduate student involvement in the research process (applied or theoretical) and engagement through dissemination, including:
- Publications
- Conference presentations
- Other professional development opportunities
Interactions in the Field
Learn by Doing through programs focused on student development, leadership, and engagement outside the classroom setting, including but not limited to:
- Field work
- Enterprise or entrepreneurial projects
- Internships or co-ops
- Industry partnerships and/or projects
- Studies abroad
- Volunteer work
