Book Launch Reception
The book launch celebration for More than a Motto: The Meaning Behind Cal Poly's Learn by Doing Signature took place on Friday, May 19 at the University Art Gallery.
The event featured a special book dedication ceremony for Dean Bailey, a long-standing supporter of Learn by Doing at Cal Poly.
More than a Motto: The Meaning Behind Cal Poly's Learn by Doing Signature's 22 case studies highlight unique and important contributions from students, faculty and staff to the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy. Each case study was carefully selected by an editorial board with representation from across campus and exemplifies educational excellence in the colleges as well as through co-curricular and multidisciplinary campus activities. In the spirit of Learn by Doing, the book was written and designed by four Cal Poly faculty and staff members with assistance from students during the design process; students in University Graphic Systems printed the book’s first 1,000 copies on its Heidelberg Press—the largest print job the students have ever undertaken.
Lead author Brian Greenwood says, "From the outset with this project, the Cal Poly community has been incredibly supportive, and we appreciate the countless contributors who've helped make this book a reality. The impact Learn by Doing has on the campus culture is palpable, and we're excited to celebrate and highlight that which makes Cal Poly truly unique."
